TickHint vs cTrader Automate: build a cTrader strategy without writing C#
TickHint Dev Team · · 6 min read
cTrader Automate is the best place to write cBots if you know C#. TickHint is for traders who have the idea but not the code: describe the rules, TickMate writes them, you backtest, and it runs on your cTrader account from the cloud. An honest comparison, including when to pick cTrader instead.

Short answer: if you write C#, or want to learn it, cTrader Automate is the natural home for a cTrader strategy. It is free with your cTrader account and lives inside the platform. If you have a rule-based idea but do not want to write the code, TickHint's Strategy Studio lets you describe it in plain English. TickMate writes the strategy, you backtest it, and it runs on your cTrader account, demo or live, from our cloud.
What each one is
cTrader Automate (also called cTrader Algo) is cTrader's built-in environment for algorithmic trading. You write cBots and custom indicators in C#, backtest them, and run them in the cTrader desktop app, or in cTrader's own cloud from any cTrader app. In the cloud, demo accounts get one instance for up to seven days at a time, and live accounts get up to ten running around the clock. cTrader says these limits can vary by broker.
TickHint is an AI trading assistant that connects to the cTrader account you already have, through cTrader's official sign-in. Its Strategy Studio turns a description into a strategy: "an aggressive momentum strategy on EURUSD" becomes real C# you can read, compiled before it is saved, and versioned with every change. The code is written for TickHint's own SDK, not as a cBot. It runs in TickHint's cloud and sends orders to your cTrader account.
Side by side
| cTrader Automate | TickHint Strategy Studio | |
|---|---|---|
| How you build it | You write C# against the cTrader API | You describe it; TickMate writes the C# |
| Indicators | A large built-in library, plus any you code | Five built in (Bollinger Bands, EMA, MACD, RSI, SMA); ask for any other and TickMate writes it |
| Backtesting | Built in, with parameter optimisation | Built in, set up in a sentence; each run is kept with the version it tested |
| When it acts | On every tick or every bar, as you code it | On each closed bar, from 1 minute to 1 day |
| Stops and targets | Resting stop-loss and take-profit orders at the broker | Exits are decided by the strategy on each closed bar; no resting SL/TP orders on cTrader yet |
| Where it runs | cTrader desktop, or cTrader's cloud | TickHint's cloud |
| Risk limits | Whatever you code | Set on deploy: max position size, max daily loss and max open positions, enforced on every bar |
| Accounts | Demo and live | Demo and live |
| Price | Free with your cTrader account | Writing and backtesting free; running in the cloud is Pro ($29/month with your own AI key, $49 with AI included) |
What about cTrader's own AI tools?
cTrader moved fast this year. In May 2026 Spotware released cTrader AI Agent Connect: two official MCP servers and a skills library that let AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and Gemini CLI place trades, analyse an account and control charts. In August came the cTrader CLI, which runs cBots and backtests from a terminal or a Linux container, without the desktop app open.
These are good tools, and they come from the people who build cTrader, so they reach deeper into the platform than any outside product. They are also developer tools: you install an MCP server or a CLI, run your AI from a coding environment, and look after the machine and credentials yourself.
TickHint makes a different trade-off. Nothing to install. One sign-in to cTrader, an assistant in the browser and on Telegram, and a strategy that runs in our cloud with its limits on a sheet.
Choose cTrader Automate if
- You know C#, or want to learn it.
- Your logic needs ticks, not closed bars, or resting stop-loss and take-profit orders at the broker.
- You want parameter optimisation and the full indicator library.
- You want everything inside cTrader, at no extra cost.
Choose TickHint if
- You have the idea but not the code, and want code you can still read and change.
- You want a backtest in a sentence and a version history of every change.
- You want guardrails you set on a sheet, not in code: position size, daily loss and open positions.
- You also want an assistant on the same account. It can build your desk in the Terminal, run scheduled agents that watch a print for you, and send trade ideas to Telegram with an Approve button.
- You trade at more than one broker. The same assistant works on Alpaca, Kraken and Revolut X.
A cTrader strategy in four sentences
- "Create a momentum strategy for EURUSD on 1-hour bars: buy when the 20 EMA crosses above the 50 and RSI is above 55, exit on the opposite cross." TickMate writes it as version 1.
- "Add ATR and size each trade so one ATR is 1% of the account." ATR is not built in, so TickMate writes it. Version 2.
- "Backtest it on the last 6 months with 10,000 in the account." The result is kept with version 2.
- Deploy it: pick your cTrader demo account, the symbol and the timeframe, set the limits, and work through nine acknowledgements. It runs on each closed bar until you press Stop.
Start on demo. A backtest is history, not a forecast, and we never publish or promise returns.
Questions
Can I build a cTrader strategy without knowing C#? Yes. In TickHint you describe the rules and TickMate writes the C#. It is still real code you can read and change. Inside cTrader itself you write the C# yourself, or with an AI coding tool connected through cTrader's MCP servers.
Does TickHint export cBots? No. Strategies run in TickHint's cloud and trade your cTrader account through cTrader's official API. They do not run inside the cTrader app.
Does it work with any cTrader broker? It works with cTrader accounts you can sign in to with your cTrader ID, demo or live.
Can it trade without my approval? Only a strategy you deploy yourself, behind the limits and acknowledgements described above. Everything else in TickHint, from the Terminal to scheduled agents, proposes trades and waits for your Approve.
